ISABELLA WIND PROJECT PROFILE

Isabella_map_for_site.png

Apex Clean Energy is excited to be a part of the northern Isabella County community. We currently have more than 36,000 acres under lease and will continue meeting with landowners, community leaders, and the public to share information as we develop a project that provides the greatest possible benefit to the entire community.

PROJECT SUMMARY

  • Project size: Approximately 400 MW
  • That's enough energy to power nearly 130,000 average U.S. homes.
  • Number of turbines: Between 150 and 200
  • Existing high-voltage transmission lines and highways limit the need for new infrastructure.
  • Size of investment: More than $800 Million* capital investment in the local community.
  • Short-term job numbers: Isabella Wind will support more than 300 jobs, and produce significant local spending during construction.
  • Long-term career opportunities: 15 to 20 well-paying careers will be created for ongoing operations and maintenance.
  • Decommissioning: Isabella County taxpayers will be protected against the costs of decommissioning.

WHY ISABELLA COUNTY?

The project site was selected as a greenfield site (meaning, this is an original project and was not under development by another company before Apex arrived) after a thorough examination of candidate sites within Michigan for the following reasons:

  • Suitable and verified wind resource
  • Community interest and involvement
  • Existing high-voltage transmission capacity
  • Expansive private land
  • Proximity to state highways

If constructed, Isabella Wind will represent a significant private investment in northern Isabella County, boosting the local economy through construction, purchasing of materials and local services, and long-term tax revenues. Over the 30-year project lifespan, the project will generate millions of dollars for local schools, municipalities and county government services, as millions more in direct payments to project participants.

WIND ENERGY FOR RURAL AMERICA

The cost of wind energy has decreased by more than 50% in recent years, providing a cost-competitive source for clean electricity across the nation. Today, wind powers the equivalent of 21 million American homes each year.**

Wind energy comes with many benefits, including reduced pollution, increased domestic employment, consumer cost savings, water conservation, nationwide availability, and increased community revenues.*** Wind turbines compliment working farms because they allow existing agricultural operations to continue around them. They also help diversify rural economies, and provide farmers with a consistent, drought-resistant source of income.

POTENTIAL TIMELINE

The projected date for completion is 2020.

* This figure represents the potential total investment for the wind farm and includes costs for construction, components and related expenses. Local tax revenues will be generated off the taxable value of the individual turbines selected for the project.
